Vaughan-Williams Symphony No.5

  • Elvet Methodist Church 8 Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3HL Durham, England, DH1 3ET United Kingdom (map)

Durham University’s Palatinate Orchestra presents an evening of music featuring Carwithen, Glazunov and Vaughan-Williams. Our concert will open with Carwithen’s delightful Suffolk Suite and will be followed by Glazunov’s Saxophone Concerto performed by soloist, Charlotte Gee. Vaughan-Williams’ magnificent fifth symphony will feature as our second half. Composed during World War II, this radiant work expresses a deep pain and heartbreak but with an overarching and insistent hopefulness throughout.
