Hindemith Symphonic Metamophosis on themes by Carl Weber

Shostakovich Symphony No. 5

Durham University Orchestral Society presents ‘Change and Conflict’. Hosted in the beautiful Elvet Methodist Church, this will be a journey back in time to the 1930’s and 40’s, exploring the political climate and uncertain times behind several renowned and popular works by Shostakovich, Hindemith and Bacewicz.

The programme portrays the mood and tension of the time, and explores a composers desire for musical success in the face of such hostility. Please join us for an evening of exciting, atmospheric and memorable repertoire, performed by one of Durham’s leading orchestras.
