Welcome to Durham University Student Music
Durham University Student Music steers and facilitates student ensembles at Durham University. With over 30 University wide groups, and many more operating within colleges, Durham University has one of the largest student music offerings of any UK university. Whether you want to conduct an orchestra, jam with friends at weekly jazz jams, or get involved with Javanese gamelan, Durham University Student Music can point you in the right direction.
Student music at Durham is almost entirely student led. Students conduct orchestras, programme concerts, book venues and so much more. Our societies offer experiences to build your musical skills, from masterclasses, concerts and coaching. However, the unique nature of student leadership means that students can build wider skills in marketing, event management and finance.

With over 100 concerts per year, in venues such as Durham Cathedral and the Gala Theatre, there are so many exciting opportunities for everyone to get involved. From playing Javanese Gamelan to conducting an orchestra, the plethora of opportunities on offer are incredible. Durham Student Music also has an incredible sense of community, with a vibrant social scene which puts inclusivity and togetherness at the heart of what it is like to be a Durham Student Musician.
