The Firebird

  • Gala Durham 1 Millennium Place Durham, England, DH1 1WA United Kingdom (map)

The Orchestral Society presents Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and more music inspired by Slavic folklore, including Dvořák’s the Water Goblin, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, and Saint-Saëns' Cello concerto no. 1 played by soloist Eloise Ramchandani.

Join the Durham University Orchestral society in the Gala Durham for an evening inspired by magic and Slavic folklore. The programme opens with Dvorak’s The Water Goblin, full of malice and cunning, followed by Saint-Saens’ timeless and virtuosic Cello Concerto no. 1, in which we are delighted to welcome Eloise Ramchandani as our soloist.

After the interval, the orchestra dives into two virtuosic orchestral favourites: Borodin’s bombastic Polovtsian Dances, and Stravinsky’s 1919 suite from the Firebird, featuring the serene Berceuse, the electrifying Infernal Dance, and the triumphant finale - it’s an evening not to be missed!
