Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony

  • Durham Cathedral Durham, England, DH1 3EH United Kingdom (map)

Join Durham University Orchestral Society in the beautiful Durham Cathedral for the climactic enormity of Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony

In celebration of 60 years of DUOS, the concert will open with Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suite No. 1, which featured in our first ever performance. This suite of incidental music was written to accompany Alphonse Daudet’s play of the same name, featuring typically French folk influence.

Following this is an exciting new piece composed by one of our players, Maxwell Richards-Clarke: A Hero’s Tale – Dreams Come True.

To conclude the concert is Tchaikovsky’s monumental 5th Symphony. Although Tchaikovsky said the piece was not programmatic, it has been speculated that the work represents an encounter with fate itself.
