Durham University Choral and Orchestral Societies join forces once more in Durham Cathedral for a monumental performance of Berlioz’s Grande Messe des Morts. Join us on our journey through terror, prayer and transcendence on an extraordinary scale.

Conceived on an extraordinary scale, this visionary Requiem places massed chorus and orchestra alongside four spatially separated brass ensembles, transforming the Cathedral into a vast theatre of sound. From the hushed solemnity of its opening prayer to the overwhelming terror of the Dies irae and the luminous serenity of the Sanctus, Berlioz moves between intimacy and spectacle with astonishing imagination.

Following their sell-out Verdi Requiem, DUCS and DUOS return for another of the choral repertoire’s most ambitious and unforgettable masterpieces.
