Durham Opera Ensemble and Durham University Palatinate Orchestra present a showcase concert including overtures, arias, duets and choruses from your favourite operas in the magical Great Hall of Durham Castle!
'Singers from the award-winning Durham Opera Ensemble accompanied by Durham University Palatinate Orchestra’s Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Anthony Sutch, invite you to a night at the opera in Durham Castle’s spectacular Great Hall.
The concert opens with The Barber of Seville’s Overture, before the ‘Brindisi’ duet and ‘Di Provenza…’ from Verdi’s La Traviata. Dido’s Lament and ‘O mio babbino caro’ follow, after the Barcarolle from The Tales of Hoffmann. Then, two arias from Don Giovanni and ‘Juliet’s Waltz’ end the first half. The Prelude, ‘Habanera’ and ‘Toreador Song’ from Bizet’s Carmen restart the concert, before Puccini’s ‘La donne e mobile’ and Saint-Saëns’s ‘Mon cœur s'ouvre…’. Two numbers from The Marriage of Figaro will be played before ‘Un bel dì, vedremo’ from Madame Butterfly and the ‘Gloria’ chorus from Verdi’s Aida closes the concert.
