Hummel’s trumpet concerto, written for the keyed trumpet inventor and virtuoso Weidinger, marked Hummel’s entrance into the Eterházy court. Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony was originally dedicated to Napoleon, who was then a heroic democratic figure. He later removed it in anger when Napoleon declared himself emperor.
