Northern Lights
Northern Lights are Durham University’s seven-time National Champion competitive a cappella group, competing in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA), the competition featured in Pitch Perfect. After four consecutive appearances at the World Finals in New York, Northern Lights made history in 2026 by placing 2nd in the world, cementing their position among the very best collegiate a cappella groups internationally. They have also remained undefeated in the UK since 2023.
Rehearsing twice a week, the group performs at venues including the O2, Barbican and Broadway, as well as taking their music to the Edinburgh Fringe each year. Alongside live performance, Northern Lights release professionally produced music annually.

Foot Notes
Foot Notes are close-harmony group of mixed voices, tackling repertoire “from Bach to Beyonce”. Rehearsing once a week, the choir combine a relaxed atmosphere with high quality performances of their signature range of repertoire, which has recently included music from Phillip Stopford, to Walk the Moon and the Spice Girls. On top of their own concerts, the group makes regular appearances at balls, college events, RTProjects’ fantastic annual Never Give Up Charity Concert and outside of Durham at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Full Score are Durham's Barbershop choir, singing a style of 4-part close harmony a cappella. With weekly rehearsals, they are a mixed voice choir of around 20 singers, singing everything from Disney and musical theatre to jazz standards and more. Throughout the year, they perform frequent concerts in Durham, often collaborating with other student music groups. There are opportunities for quartets to compete at the British Association of Barbershop Singers competitions and each year they take a show to the Edinburgh Fringe, where they have won the Best A Capella award at the Fringe multiple times.

Durham Dynamics
Durham Dynamics are a large mixed a cappella choir of around 18 members, promoting a no-pressure environment with an emphasis on making joyful and fun music. They are an auditioned choir but there is no necessity to be able to sight read, with two weekly rehearsals to work towards gigs. The group perform both in and out of Durham, with frequent appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and their 2022 show was rated five stars by multiple viewers.
Some previous members have described the group as, 'Amazing friendships and music - what more could you want?', 'The choir's own arrangements are so fun to sing!', 'In the dance of melodies, dynamics roars'.
